Engineers Without Borders at UWM installs water systems for mountain communities in Guatemala and learns about other challenges facing the people while they work with the residents. People living without a functioning electrical grid are limited in their activities by daylight and travel to another town weekly to charge batteries. The We Share Solar Suitcase was developed for off-grid schools in Africa and seemed like a promising solution to adopt for Guatemala. This year's project built on insights gained through the installation of prior projects. The Biomedical project is new and is stemming from a UWM faculty member's research. It allowed our students to gain a better understanding in what goes into biomedical research.
