Tanya has been enthusing about science and making in some form or other for most of her life. She's written tutorials, magazine articles, and educational materials. She's talked about making to all sorts of audiences, including the Guild of Makers Launch, Hackaday Unconferences, and at Maker Faires. She runs workshops at festivals, conferences, and universities. She is based in Sheffield, UK.

Learn how fingernails have been a status symbol across the ages, and how ancient and modern fabrication techniques have been used. From badass Chinese empresses to embedded technology and communication, this maker-focused historical romp will have you clued up about the *other* kind of nails.
What inspired you to begin investigating your topic or inspired you to make your project?:
I've always been a Maker and have continued with learning new things throughout my life, to keep my brain ticking over. At the moment the chemistry and fabrication of artificial nails fascinates me, as it's a miniature version of fibreglassing, which I used to make a body for a drag race car. It's an interesting form of non-permanent body hacking, and combines many Maker techniques.
