MakeX Palo Alto

MakeX Palo Alto

MakeX is a public makerspace that is maintained and staffed by volunteer teen mentors at Cubberley Community Center in Palo Alto, CA. The volunteer mentor staff members are Gregory Xie, Jevan Yu, Edan Sneh, Kevin Dee, Maria Ramon, and Yonatan Maor.

What inspired you to make this project?:
MakeX was created with the City of Palo Alto to provide the youth of the community with the opportunity to learn how to use tools and software under the guidance of teen mentors, and to provide an environment for visitors to work on their own projects. We believe that by bringing making into a more casual, self-guided environment with good instructional scaffolding, we can attract young visitors and cultivate healthy learning habits in them by teaching through making. Our pedagogical philosophy is that, given a climate that encourages independence, anyone can master their inherent ability to create and inspire creation in others.
