Burlington NC, Maker Community

Burlington NC (Alamance County) has worked for the last 5 years to bring people, organizations, schools, & government together around the Maker Movement. Our exhibit shows our story, projects, and acts as a guide to others building maker communities.

What inspired you to make this project?:
My trip to exhibit at the 2011 Bay Area Maker Faire... after being exposed to the power of the Maker Movement, the rise of Makerspaces, the new techniques for hands-on STEM education, I knew I had to bring the Maker Movement back with me to my community (Burlington NC). For the last five years I've been working to build our community through the Alamance Makers Guild, Burlington Mini Maker Faire, Mayor's Maker Challenge, and through exhibits and travel to other Maker Cities, Maker Faires, and Maker Spaces regionally and nationally. We now are working together in our community across multiple organizations including schools, government, private, and individuals.
