The MOOVR Board by the Supreme Sushi Samurais

We are a team of elementary school students. In our efforts to reduce plastic waste we have experimented in making bioplastics, and developed and produced a skateboard from recycled milk jugs (HDPE) and are working on a biocomposite version.

What inspired you to make this project?:
Our project started as part of a First Lego League Competition. The theme was on reducing waste. We knew that plastics could be recycled, and believed that the way to promote doing so on a large scale was to come up with products that businesses would see as an economically viable opportunity. We chose the skateboard as an example of a retail sporting good. We also made some rock climbing hand holds. We initially cooked up bioplastic in our kitchens. We then found out that HDPE, aka milk jugs could be melted in the oven without any toxic fumes, and we used them to make skateboards. We also experimented using plastic shopping bags from the market. We are currenlty working on a biocomposite version, that would be biodegradable. We won 1st Prize for our project in our Qualifying Tournament in Los Angeles, and the Judges Award at our Championship Tournament for Southern California.
