HipMonster.com presents, Robot Freedom, an exploration of robotics and steampunk culture. We bring robots to life by giving hands-on experience with robotic basics presented by an autonomous android powered by feelings. Learn how a mechanical mind works, power a music robot with your own strength and watch how a robot sees a world filled with stimuli! All the robots are kid designed and built. We love makers and our goal is to inspire others to create. And in that spirit we have made sure our robots are not only replicable but affordable. For all interested we will provide links to all the material and tools we used, provide DIY articles and provide an open source version of our emotional AI codebase. HipMonsters is about celebrating the joy in the art of making.

HipMonsters.com is a tutorial and review site for DIY projects focusing on steampunk designs, robotics, props, and art. Most of the designs are built by kids for kids ranging in ages from 6 to 13. We focus on unique designs created to inspire kids to build on their own by focusing on the art and joy of building something new.

What Inspired You to Make This?

The MythBusters and Woodwright shop were the primary sources of inspiration for making. The spark to build steampunk robots came from GirlGenius Online, Wollstonecraft Detective Agency, and Gunnerkrigg Court (who made building robots look far too easy). We also get ideas from various channels on YouTube (such as Anthony Francis-Jones ), Instagram, and, MakerFaire.
