Ubo Pod is an open-source hardware platform made for makers and developers. It adds a layer of UI/UX to Raspberry Pi to let end-users better interact with developer applications. Makers can use it to develop smart home applications or self-host their personal data on their own hardware. I have been building projects with Raspberry Pi for many years. In almost every project, I had to add some additional piece of hardware to Raspberry Pi to extend its capability or build a user interface. I realized that many other developers share this common pain point as Raspberry Pi does not have any built-in UI (User Interface) and it is not possible to develop apps with compelling user experience on them. So I set out to address this problem by developing an open source design named “Ubo Pod”. Ubo Pod adds a layer of UI to Raspberry Pi 4 which include a graphical user interface for headless operation, LED ling, stereo microphones and speakers for audio and speech applications, IR blaster and receiver, as well as light and temperature sensor. I design Ubo Pod to have an appealing look and bring all these capabilities together in a small form factor. Ubo Pod can be a perfect platform for self-hosting and smart home applications. I am excited to see what other developers do with Ubo Pod.
