I have wanted to be a part of a local makerspace/hackerspace for a long time, but there has never been one in my area. I was inspired to try to start one myself after attending the Hackers On Planet Earth conference in NYC and accidentally co-running an impromptu lockpicking village. It's a long story, but the short version is, I encountered someone else picking locks to relax and joined in, then more and more people noticed us and it grew until we had 4-5 tables full of people picking and someone doing a livestream presentation.
