Strawtown Studio

Strawtown Studio was founded in 2002 as a place for young people to experience creativity, skill-building, and shared nature appreciation. The relationship of people to place is at the heart of our mission. Strawtown artists teach from numerous locations in the Hudson Valley and develop art programs around the features and history of each place. Participants are guided to explore a wide variety of innovative art forms with natural and fine art materials, and learn about themselves while at the same time becoming aware of their local environment. The Strawtown curriculum provides vital experiences in self-discovery, creative expression, and collaboration in community, adding meaningful context to school study, and developing self-confidence. Created by an artist-educator with professional experience in the fine arts and a passion for ecology, the work is also dedicated to positioning art as a voice and change agent for the environment.
