RayLights – Audio Activated Lumiere

Faire: Bay Area

Maker: Craig Newswanger

Home: California, United States

This dynamic artwork produces ever-changing, mandala-like light patterns that are activated by ambient sounds. The fluctuating, animated light rays range from intense spectral colors to subtle pastels. A sequence of patterns repeats, but when you make sound—talk, sing, clap—the preprogrammed patterns are modified as the lights respond with non-repeating, complex variations of the colors and patterns.

Water Sampling Drone, campionamento delle acque.

Faire: Rome

Maker: IIS Marconi Galletti Einaudi Domodossola

Water Sampling Drone is an automatic surface water sampling system based on the STM32 microcontroller. The improved collection system allows you to manage multiple samplings during a single mission and thanks to a multi-parameter platform (pH, Temperature, Dissolved Oxygen, Conductivity, solid state detector for muon measurement) data on the quality of the water for each withdrawal point. The collected water is then stored in special test tubes and can be used for subsequent chemical-biological analyzes in the laboratory. The system is equipped with a GPS independent from the drone control one to allow the replicability of the sampling and the georeferencing of the data: the coordinates and the acquired data are memorized on a micro-SD and simultaneously sent via radio to a computer on the ground.

Smart Sensor for Testing Agrifood Quality & Safety at the Point of Care

Faire: Rome

Maker: Sapienza Università di Roma

The Device we present is a Lab-on-Chip. It consists of a system on glass (SoG), where are integrated photosensors for light detection, a thermalization system and sensors for controlling the temperature. The SoG is coupled with a microfluidic system where biological assay occurs and allows the detection of mycotoxins and food pathogens. The system is contained in a portable metallic box. The assays consist of specific recognition elements for the detection of the mycotoxins, which identify the target (mycotoxins) and emits a luminescent signal when the target is present. The luminescent signal is then detected by the photosensors. In the case of food pathogens, the system is able to perform a molecular test: identify a specific DNA sequence of the pathogens, which is amplified and detected by the photosensors following the luminescent signal generated during the DNA amplification. The thermalization system ensures the reactions occurring at the requested temperature.

Gamification of Sensory Analysis

Faire: Rome

Maker: Simply SFA

To define the sensory profile of a product according to UNI/ISO standards, the test must be carried out in sensory booths; "white rooms" where it is tested in ideal conditions. ISO booths are not easy to find, so we decided to make them portable: the Sensorial Stations. These can be of various types: • ISO Mode a sensory booth • Desk Mode a sensory desk • MiniSens which transforms any desk into an ISO station But our aim is to highlight how the tasting of products changes according to the conditions in which it takes place. This is why we want to train and challenge the senses of consumers to recognize the characteristics of the products in any environment.
