We the People Community Quilt Project
Maker Faire Bay Area 2026
September 25th-27th
Piece by piece, a hopeful vision
We set out to create a community quilt that displays our collective vision for a people-powered democracy. We set a goal of 100 people to create 100 quilt squares. We thought that would be ambitious. We were wrong —in the best possible way. More than 200 people answered the call. They came to workshops at libraries and community centers. They painted, embroidered, appliquéd, and printed on fabric. Some had never touched a needle before. Some had been quilting for decades. All of them had something to say. When the panels came in, 246 in all, they were as varied and alive as the community that made them. Images of hands joined across differences.
Through this collaborative art project, we’re coming together to reflect what we value, what we hope for, and what kind of world we want to build together, and making it visual. And we have the instructions and advice to help people replicate this with their community, school or organization, too!
