Luxtriplicata

Maker Faire Bay Area 2026

September 25th-27th

Exhibit Art & DesignRibbon Recipient

Luxtriplicata is an interactive light installation that transforms the science of optics and the natural phenomena of light, reflection, refraction, and color into a hands-on experience for visitors of all ages. At its center is a rotatable plate embedded with glass prisms illuminated by a beam of white light. By rotating the plate and rearranging the prisms, participants actively shape how light refracts, reflects, and disperses into vibrant spectrums of color.

The resulting projections radiate outward in a 360-degree field, spreading across surrounding surfaces and turning walls, floors, and architecture into a canvas for an ever-changing universe of color, light, and discovery.

Rooted in the analog principles of light, refraction, and perception, Luxtriplicata invites visitors to engage directly with light itself. Through touch, movement, and experimentation, participants become active creators of the evolving light artwork, shaping colors, reflections, and projections in real time. Combining art, science, and play, the installation offers an accessible and engaging experience where the invisible behavior of light becomes something tangible, interactive, and open to exploration.

Johan Fredrik Källman

Johan Fredrik Källman is a Swedish light artist working at the intersection of art, science, and public interaction. He holds a Master’s degree in Fine Art Photography from the University of Gothenburg, and creates interactive light installations that transform natural optical phenomena into shared, hands-on experiences in public space. Since 2021, his practice has focused on analogue optical systems, perception, and audience participation, where visitors actively shape light, color, and spatial environments through direct interaction. His installations are designed for festivals, urban spaces, and public settings, with an emphasis on accessibility, curiosity, and engagement across ages and backgrounds. Källman’s work has been presented internationally at public light festivals such as Portland Winter Light Festival, Lumière Vancouver, LUMEN in Waterloo, and Autumn Lights Festival in Oakland, among others. During his Canadian light festival tour in 2025, he was invited by the Embassy of Sweden in Ottawa, Canada, to present his work as part of its cultural programming, and has also collaborated with the Embassy of Sweden in Washington, D.C. Alongside his installations, he develops workshops and artist talks that connect artistic experimentation with STEAM learning and scientific exploration. Through hands-on work with prisms, optics, and analogue light systems, he invites audiences to explore light physics, color, and perception in an accessible and playful way. His practice is rooted in a Scandinavian approach to public art that values material simplicity, curiosity, and participation, creating environments where people become active makers of light, color, and shared visual experiences.
