Lasermaze
Maker Faire Bay Area 2026
September 25th-27th
You’ve seen in in the movies, the security system with a field of crisscrossed laser beams, break a beam and the alarm goes off. This is your opportunity to test your skills against a high-tech laser security system, just for fun. Can you successfully step over, under, and around up to 36 laser beams without tripping an alarm? The Laser Maze is a timed game based on real security system design details. Skilled guests can navigate through it in a few seconds, but be careful, every time you break a beam it adds ten seconds to your time. Feel free to ask us about how it works, with a Raspberry Pi4, six Raspberry Picos, every laser is modulated at a different frequency and the laser receivers look for only that specific frequency. This is the third generation of the Lasermaze developed by the Benicia Makerspace.
Benicia Makerspace
As two avid Makers, Jim Kennon and Aaron Newcomb, we built this for fun (and just because we could). We use it for public events around the Bay Area including the Makerspace’s STEAM Discovery Festival, coming to Solano Community College in Fairfield, CA every spring. It’s always a crowd pleaser so we keep making improvements to it, currently on the third-generation control system.
