Boogie Racers The Roller Boogie Machine

Maker Faire Bay Area 2026

September 25th-27th

Exhibit Fun & Games

Boogie racers Hot Wheels racing 6 lane 30 foot track along with the Roller Boogie Machine transforms my classic 1970s Chevy G10 Shorty into a life-size, fully functional Hot Wheels racing machine. Inside, it's a true 1970s time capsule with shag carpet and disco balls, while the outside is inspired by Hot Wheels and classic custom vans from the era.

What makes it unique is that the traditional 1970s sunset stripes aren't vinyl graphics—they're made from real Hot Wheels track. I custom-painted the tracks in a retro sunset color scheme and mounted them from the rear wing, across the roof, and down the sides of the van. They aren't just for looks. Visitors can place Hot Wheels cars on the side-mounted tracks and race them down the van before they connect to a full six-lane raceway.

The van becomes the starting point of a 30-foot, six-lane Hot Wheels drag strip featuring an electronic starting gate, infrared finish-line sensors, and a digital display showing each lane's finishing time and winner. Throughout the day, visitors can purchase Hot Wheels cars, race as many times as they like, compete for prizes, and experience a live race hosted over a microphone just like a real drag strip.

The project combines custom vehicle fabrication, engineering, electronics, painting, and interactive design. We're currently developing the next generation of the system using Arduino and ESP32 controllers, addressable RGB lighting, infrared timing sensors, and upgraded race software to create an even more immersive experience.

Boogie Racers

Boogie Racers team creates interactive, hands on Hot Wheels racing experiences that combine creativity, engineering, and play for all ages. We design and build custom six-lane raceways, electronic timing systems, themed race environments, and one of a kind attractions that encourage people to step away from their screens and connect through friendly competition. Our newest project, The Roller Boogie Machine, transforms a classic 1970s Chevy G10 into a fully functional life-size Hot Wheels racing machine using real Hot Wheels track as part of the vehicle itself. By combining custom fabrication, electronics, programming, design, and imagination, we hope to inspire the next generation of makers, engineers, artists, and builders while creating an experience families can enjoy together.
