Sue-Yee Leung has a background in fashion and fine-art photography, and has been exhibited at such galleries as the Chashama Gallery, New York, NY, the UVA and Panopticon Gallery in Boston, MA.
Jewelry made from electronic materials such as grounding wire and rubber insulation. Form emerges from incremental, growth-like process of layering hand-cut rubber to produce shapes resembling sea creatures, plants, and insect parts.
What inspired you to make this project?:
I was inspired mostly by the pleasure of working with the rubber tubing material and exploring its properties, which are especially well-suited to the kinds of shapes I like to make. A lot of the visual language is inspired by the years I spent living in Boston near the New England Aquarium, where I would
often visit several times a week to stare at the jellies, crustaceans, and sea dragons.
