Michael Levy has been a Web programmer for the last twelve years. He enjoys beautiful algorithms and patterns that occur in code, nature, and design. He works in a variety of visual media, exploring the way a kernel can grow into a complex pattern.
Using the simplest geometry, circles and lines, ruler and compass design is an ancient method for creating patterns. The organic mathematics can inspire artists and technologists alike to solve problems in new ways.
What inspired you to make this project?:
Learning about Persian design methods and symbolism was a fascinating discovery. The connection of natural patterns to geometric constructions has many avenues of exploration. I have sought to go beyond using the traditional designs and have built an app that works as a ruler and compass. It is easier to be creative with the flexibility that comes with graphics software.
