Kidspire

Kidspire

Kidspire provides fun hands-on architecture and design projects to children in grades K-6. Our enrichment programs include in-school residencies and afterschool programs that integrate the classroom curriculum with STEAM based lesson plans.

What inspired you to make this project?:
I started teaching architecture and design as a volunteer at my children’s public school. My hands-on projects were well received by the students, teachers, and parents. This inspired me to apply for an arts grant to be able to reach out to more students. “My City”, my most popular project, was funded by a grant from the Queens Council on the Arts in 2013 and 2014. This later inspired me to launch Kidspire in 2015 to reach a broader community.

The particular project I selected for the fair is "Popup Architecture". It’s a simple way to introduce key concepts of geometry to children, 3d form making, challenges motor skills, can be completed in one sitting, and can be constructed from inexpensive materials that I can easily supply in bulk at the fair.
