UTMB Health MakerHealth Space
World Maker Faire 2017
In September 2015, UTMB Health was the first medical center in the country to establish a makerspace in a hospital. UTMB's MakerHealth Space allows nurses, doctors, researchers, students, and staff members the ability to prototype and solve problems.

Quoted from David Marshall's article in Nursing Journal (http://www.nurseleader.com/article/S1541-4612(16)30223-3/abstract):
"Despite the onslaught of technology within health care, the need for nurse innovation continues in today's practice environment. Nurses fabricate solutions to everyday problems to increase safety, comfort, and efficiency of care; however, this ingenuity goes largely unsupported without space, time, and materials to bring practical solutions to everyday problems to fruition. Likewise, nursing as a field has departed from valuing everyday innovation in the pursuit of nursing research that follows the traditions of the scientific method."
