The Sankofa Global Project's Tinker Workshop Labs

The Sankofa Global Project's Tinker Workshop Labs encourage critical thinking skill development through exercises in trial and error during scientific experiments!

What inspired you to make this project?:
The Education Programs of The Sankofa Global Project are an inclusion vertical that focuses on progressive community problem solving, supported by diversity of thought and collaboration among all ethnicities and genders. We encourage educators, students, entrepreneurs, developers, designers, communities, families, and innovators from all backgrounds to tackle issues related to what today’s statistics reveal - access to the tightly integrated careers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (S.T.E.A.M.) for many communities is elusive.
These challenges are damaging to our nation, our democracy, and our place in the global market and the global economy. With every student matriculation into non-S.T.E.A.M. areas, the chasm of disparity deepens and the limitations on innovation are more pronounced. Low rates of access to S.T.E.A.M. internships, fellowships, mentorship, entrepreneurial endeavors, resources, and employment lead to global incompetence, apathy, indifference, timidity, and subordination. The Sankofa Global Project has created programs, curricula, and initiatives specifically designed to assist communities in gaining access to education, career, and global opportunities in S.T.E.A.M.

In June 2016, Sankofa Global hosted its first large-scale Tinker Workshop Labs for 2,000 students in New York City in the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn. To maximize our reach for student, family, and community impact, we will host additional Tinker Workshop Labs in December 2016. The Sankofa Global Project will host and conduct the Workshop Labs every June and December every year thereafter.
Sankofa Global's Tinker Workshop Labs explore tinkering from multiple disciplines.
