Asma Chaudhary: Home Maker Fiber Art

Asma Chaudhary: Home Maker Fiber Art

An interactive yarn wrapping experience with embroidery yarn, bells, and pipe cleaners to surfaces like bird cages, baskets, and tricycles. This popular activity teaches visitors about South Asian artwork and contemporary and traditional techniques.

What inspired you to make this project?:
I have been a practicing fine artist and sculptor for nearly 10 years now. Most of my work includes heavy industrial machinery to create furniture so yarn wrapping at the Maker Faires is a nice way to connect to children and share my art making experiences with them. After creating my bicycle rickshaw, instead of painting the surface different colors, I was suddenly inspired to wrap miles of metallic, embroidery yarn all over it and this has sparked numerous yarn wrapped objects and projects to share my love of Bollywood flair and expanding the concept of "Home Maker" with the community.
