Sander van de Bor is a public installation artist and LED wearables creator. His work features large mechanical monarch butterflies inspired by Dia de los Muertos, which will fly in the dark room, and a large sunflower, a national symbol of Ukraine. Sander van de Bor is also showcasing his state-of-the-art LED wearables powered by supercapacitors, and a light up vest with over 200 LEDs.

Engineer during the day, but at night, I transform into an artist who creates stunning pieces of light art. My work is inspired by the beauty and power of light, and I hope to use it to bring joy and wonder to others.

The monarch butterflies were designed in 2019 to support an art project with the Mexican Heritage Center in Stockton. The butterflies were flying around a Dia de los Muertos altar during the Collide festival. For the 2022 Collide festival a sunflower was created to show solidarity with the Ukrainian people. The center of the sunflower will be lit up with LEDs, and they will work together in beautiful patterns that represent the interconnectedness of all nations. I take pride in creating wearables that are innovative and use the latest technology. In my latest designs I was able to eliminate the coin cell battery entirely. Coin cells can be dangerous if swallowed, especially by children, which inspired me to find alternatives. The supercapacitors are rechargeable, making it an excellent alternative for coin cell batteries.
