MusicHArt – L’esperienza nella musica visiva

Faire: Rome

Maker: B.P.S. Business Performance Services S.r.l.

The MusicHArt project was started in 2018 by the innovative start-up B.P.S. and its evolved version was launched in 2022 after years of experimentation. In the team Gianmarco Merlini represents the creator. It is inspired by research carried out in the field of synesthesia between music and color to allow artists and composers to transform their musical works into forms of abstract art through software that analyzes the melody and reproduces its relative abstract design. The result is a digital abstract canvas as well as the audio-video recording of the creation of the work.

IL FENOMENO DEL PADEL

Faire: Rome

Maker: FORGIAFER SRL - ITALIAN PADEL

Forgiafer produces what can be defined as the best padel courts on the market and offers 10 years of warranty: since the beginning of the activity in 2016, it has installed more than 2500 courts in over 20 countries. The goal for the next two years is to distribute 65% of the achievements on the foreign market, while already in 2022 the company will reach an annual production capacity of 1500 courts. From 2018 the products are CE certified according to EN 1090-1, recalled by NCT 2018 and Legislative Decree 106/2017 in compliance with EU Regulation No. 305/2011. The CE marking, which is mandatory in Europe, represents a focus on safety and provides a number of additional benefits for customers. With the adaptation of the structures to the NCT 2018, the Padel courts installed in Italy must ensure resistance to wind thrust over 100 km/h. The glasses of the court are tempered 12mm or laminated and have a thickness of 6 + 6 mm with plastic interlayer, which implies greater resistance, greater rebound and greater safety during play. The structure, finally, made with increased thicknesses, is completely galvanized, the welds are anti-corrosion and the painting is carried out in powder, improving the abrasion resistance and the durability of the product over time.

Io creo il mio device

Faire: Rome

Maker: Energy Family Project APS (e-Nable Italia)

e-Nable Italia is a community of volunteers focused on the development, construction and free distribution of devices (the "devices", aids based on "Open Source" projects) to anyone who has limb difference problems or needs aids, the initiative is promoted and managed by the Energy Family Project APS, the Italian association of families with children with agenesis and limb amputation problems. "I create my device" is an experimental project based on the concept of "disablity led design", a new approach to the design of aids that can actively involve children/users in the creative design process of their help. This approach goes beyond the simple participation of the user, that becomes the starting point and essential contributor to the project. In contrast to the other approaches, disability-led design “seeks to speculatively respond to, amplify, or celebrate some aspect of the identity and culture of people with disabilities. The outcomes of disability-led design are characterized by a change in the way we perceive and interact with a category of object, space or system, and by a consequent change in the meaning assigned to it” (National Endowment for the Arts, 2021, p .23). Through some creative sessions activated with the children of the families of the association the children were encouraged to generate ideas for new devices that the community of volunteers would subsequently implement. The devices imagined by children are the result of their creativity and will respond to needs that are important to them. At the Maker Faire stand we would like to exhibit both some of these devices designed directly by children, but also the entire design process as the application of an approach which involves a transfer of design power from the designer to the end user, with a consequent change in conception and perception of the prosthetic object as part of the "self" system, as well as in the meaning that this assumes as a manifestation of self-determination of the disabled user.

Sistema per l’Identificazione Massiva e a Bordo Automezzo di Sacchi per la Raccolta dei Rifiuti

Faire: Rome

Maker: Università degli Studi del Sannio - Benevento

Smart waste management aims at developing novel ways to optimize waste life-cycle. This objective can be achieved by combining new regulations with the availability of enabling technologies. TARIP is a novel model for tax calculation proposed by Italian government. Differently from the current method (TARI), it separates the amounts due in two different contributions: i) a fixed one, for the services offered by the waste company (i.e. waste collection), and ii) a variable one based on the real amount of taxpayer’s unsorted waste. The second part requires the adoption of a system to automate the computation of waste volume generated by each building. At Maker Faire, we aim at presenting a tracking system able to massively track waste sacks produced by citizens and collected by trucks to calculate in a more precise way the variable amounts due. It is an integrated hardware-software and edge-to-cloud system, developed by the Engineering Department of UniSannio in cooperation with the Agenzia Servizi Igiene Ambientale SpA (ASIA) di Benevento whose edge component is located on truck board and composed of a microcomputer, an RFID reader, and related antennas. The system can perform massive reading of RFID transponders tied to rubbish sacks when they are collected by the waste company operators. Thanks to the adoption of UHF RFID technologies supported by (a) an accurate placement of antennas, (b) specific heuristics, (c) a software architecture strongly tied to the microcomputer hardware, and (d) transactional interactions between edge and cloud, the system is able to read, in a transparent way for the operators, massive amount of sacks IDs that an in-cloud business logic associate to tax payers for defining the variable TARIP contribution.

Cyber Escape Room – attacco alla Nerd Corporation

Thirty minutes to infiltrate the computer system of the Nerd Corporation to prevent the evil organization from launching a cyber attack. This is the challenge to be solved in the escape room created by the Cybersecurity National Lab of the CINI (National Interuniversity Consortium for Informatics) and the IMT School of Advanced Studies Lucca. The objective is to raise awareness of cybersecurity and the relationship between privacy, digital and exposure to risk. A team of volunteer hackers will be trained and sent on a mission to break into the Nerd Corporation's lair and to steal its secret plans. It is played in teams made up of a maximum of 4 people, divided between a team on the field and a team at the terminal. The field team recovers clues and moves through the escape room while the terminal team uses computer tools to solve the challenges.
