The Ocean in a Tank

The interior of the ocean is layered. The ocean's density gradient between the warm freshwater on the surface and the cold salty water in the deep ocean is called the pycnocline. The pycnocline has a strong control of the biology of the ocean. In a set of simple demonstrations, we will explore how the ocean moves and the implications of this circulation on Earth's climate.
