Atlanta Beats Covid: Collaboration, Innovation and Yorkshire Pudding

Virtually Maker Faire 2020

May 22nd-23rd

Exhibit

Atlanta Beats Covid is a partnership of four makerspaces in the metro-Atlanta area and hundreds of makers who teamed up to make and deliver PPE to healthcare and frontline professionals across Georgia. It started with a request from an Atlanta-area hospital doctor concerned with the limited availability of PPE; Our maker community, similar to the worldwide maker community, responded with "doing what makers do." The team outlined initial products and plans, and got to work with fundraising, research, design, communications, backend system development, volunteer coordination, material purchases, logistics, healthcare feedback, and more. As of May 20, the team has made and delivered over 20K PPE including various face shields, elastic strain relievers, intubation enclosures, and beginning with gowns and respirator masks.
