3D Printed PPE & STEM at Home

Virtually Maker Faire 2020

May 22nd-23rd

Exhibit

The Science Center covers an array of exhibits and programming, but as the COVID 19 pandemic hit our area, the education team had an immediate burning desire to help supplement the shortage of PPE for frontline and healthcare workers in our community. We have a techlab equipped with many 3D printers and Lasercutting machines so our team quickly worked through a few prototypes until tweaking and finalizing to a standard Prusia model. We were able to donate 130 fully-assembled face shields to Foundcare in the first week (please see news video YouTube link).
The City of West Palm Beach's Emergency Operations Center and COVID task force were so inspired by the news of our project they featured us once again in the media, reserved some for their team and the project has continued to provide hundreds of faceshields to over ten other groups, broadly stretched between two counties.
