The Beat Box: Teaching Wave Interference with Arduino

Virtually Maker Faire 2020

May 22nd-23rd

Exhibit

Sound wave interference can be mathematical and sometimes abstract. The idea is to build a sound beat generator with an Arduino board, 2 piezo speakers and simple coding that allows students to develop and apply knowledge.
The Arduino board outputs 2 PWM signals. One signal has fixed frequency, the other has variable frequency. As the frequency of the variable sound signal changes beats can be heard. A LED flashes with the same beat frequency to allow a visual representation of the sound. Frequency values are also visible on a LCD.
