The Many Faces of Faceshields: Bringing together everyone in Atlanta to make

Virtually Maker Faire 2020

May 22nd-23rd

Exhibit

This project will be a video diary of the evolution of the effort to make PPE in Atlanta, focusing on the production and delivery of face shields which includes multiple maker spaces including: Decatur Makers, The Maker Station, Roswell Fire Labs, as well as multiple independent makers that concurrently spun up during the crisis: Atlanta Shield Makers, Atlanta Face Shields and more.

This story will include how and why different designs were used such as the PRUSA, the Wisconsin, and the New York designs as well as how they were improvised upon. We will also explain how sponsors, volunteer drivers, volunteer assembly people, and local businesses were involved. Interesting sub-stories include: working with Coca cola to store plastic, working with Dynetics in Alabama to trade materials and labor, and how we had the chance to impact healthcare providers like Imaginehope and Westcare which needed PPE to simply function at all.
