Designing and Sewing Face Masks

Virtually Maker Faire 2020

May 22nd-23rd

Exhibit

As soon as states in the US began shutting down, the call went out for homemade face masks. Makers and sewists of all stripes answered the call, sharing design ideas and research on the best materials, sourcing fabric, and creating videos, patterns, and written instructions for others to follow. And while hospitals for the most part have since found commercially-made supplies, re-usable, washable cloth face masks for office and retail workers and the general public are still in high demand. Hear from mask creators how and why this low-tech solution to the problem of containing the coronavirus pandemic is so important to our country's recovery.
