The Influence of Luck
Virtually Maker Faire 2020
May 22nd-23rd
"The Influence of Luck" - a maker-narrative. It's a four-year arc that ties together my entire time as a maker in the context of a single project.
In 2015 I started working as a maker in order to learn how to build, at a granular level, all of the data and computer parts for a high-altitude balloon flight. In 2019, I failed and left for Bay Area Maker Faire with only my acoustic levitator.
The morning of the Faire, before morning meetings at the Pullman, a video came on over twitter. A group of environmental science students in North-Western PA recovered his box, turning it into a surprise "feel-good" story for local news for months to follow.
The "take away" message of the story is that at every turn, I found a way to keep the project moving forward, and that it always involved the help of new friends I met along the way.
The narrative runs just about 30 minutes and can be followed by 2 to 10 minutes of video.
