Nicolas Escarpentier
Nicolás Escarpentier is a Chilean tech artist and activist, and a M.P.S. candidate at NYU’s ITP. His works use diverse emerging technologies to instigate a reflection on gender and social issues, and find new ways to augment our means of expression.
Rhythmic skin is a tech-enhanced jacket for musical performances.
What inspired you to make this project?:
Trying to solve the sensory overload in one-person musical performances, I started experimenting with other senses that could carry information without disturbing the performer. Thus, a wearable device that sends haptic messages was a logic choice, and the MIDI integration was an essential requirement to make it work with any music software.
