As a cartoonist in 1974, Steven M. Johnson discovered his "inner inventor". Since then his whimsical, plausible, and ludicrous product ideas have been published in magazines, online, and in 6 books. He has lectured at colleges and universities.
Since 1974, I've imagined and illustrated whimsical, plausible, and ludicrous products and scenarios, some prophetic. I've published six books and 70 giclee-quality prints that show the power of lateral thinking. I share my secrets at The Maker Faire
What inspired you to make this project?:
This is ongoing work since the early 1970s. But the particular inspiration for participating in The Maker Faire comes from a) the supportive, interested, eager, amused crowds who stop by, b) the camaraderie and feedback, c) meeting friends in the Maker community–some I have known for years, and d) inspiring a new generation. My work is especially understandable to six-year olds, not sure why. The Maker Faire, frankly, is a high point of my year.
