In September 2015 UTMB Health was the first medical center in the country to establish a Makerspace in a hospital. The space is designed to take faculty, staff, and student ideas and turn them into prototypes they can hold in their hands.

David Marshall serves as the Chief Nursing Officer for the University of Texas Medical Branch Health System. He is credited with bringing the MakerHealth Space to UTMB Health in collboration with MakerNurse™ and MakerHealth™.
