Capitol Area BioSpace (CABS) is a community biotechnology organization in the D.C. area to promote awareness and engagement with the public about the value of molecular biology and synthetic biology research.

What inspired you to make this project?:
We are a new group who is interested in organizing a community biology lab space (a Maker Lab for biology and biotechnology) - we hope to participate in the MakerFaire to support our mission, gather interested individuals, and showcase some of the projects, equipment, and ideas.
We hope that by creating a safe, ethical laboratory environment, we will encourage the public to pursue biology motivated by personal interest and community participation. We are also driven by the need to connect with the national and global network of community biotechnology labs by creating, adapting, and disseminating practices that increase accessibility of biological research to the public.
