Sonoma Tintype

Home: California, United States

We use original equipment from the 1850's from the cameras, tent/photo booth , chemicals, clothing to the speech pattern of the time. We try to take people back to at era. Tintype was the first inxpensive form of photography that the average person could afford. A family photograph in 1850 would only cost about two ,hours of work whereas a portrait may cost 60 _ 100 hours of work.

I use the original formula, created in 1850, to make Tintype Photographs. We have participated with the original Makers Faire over four seasons and had been awarded many ribbons for our work teaching how this old process works.

What Inspired You to Make This?

This was just a simple hobby researching the antique process to make the original tintypes, then finding the chemicals and then mixing the chemicals and creating an actual Tintype Photograph !
