Got Robots? Giant Skating Robot ‘Marauder’

Faire: Bay Area

Maker: Nick Donaldson

Home: California, United States

Marauder is a giant (5' tall, 170 lbs) walking, skating and dancing hexapod robot, and is the fourth generation robot using Nick's locking linkage walking mechanism. The locking linkage leg mechanism holds the robot up against gravity so no motor energy is used while standing and very little to walk as the motors never see the mass of the robot. The current RoboGames Best of Show Gold medalist, the robot was recently upgraded with a reactive rainbow lightshow on each leg. Passive wheels on the legs allow the robot to skate at a fast walking pace and Marauder can now deploy the smaller but similar robot Blader directly from its underbelly while skating. Blader is fifth gen and uses the same mechanism and so is code compatible with Marauder while being 1/4 the size.

Syntesi – Semantic Summarization

Faire: Rome

Maker: Babelscape

Syntesi is an advanced summarization solution based on semantic understanding, designed specifically for the newspaper industry. This system not only recognizes and semanticizes the main concepts of an article, but goes further by identifying named entities, deciphering the emotions inherently expressed in the text (such as joy, anger, and admiration), categorizing the content according to specific domains (e.g., sports, politics, entertainment), and detecting the tone of the language (whether it is offensive, vulgar, etc.). In addition, the system generates a summary with the key content of the article. The end result is an incisive and multifaceted summary that captures the essence of the original article in its various facets. At Maker Faire we will present an interactive demonstration of Syntesi in action on various newspaper articles. Our goal is to highlight how semantic analysis can serve as an important tool for the newspaper industry.

THE Holy Bike

Faire: Bay Area

Maker: Keith Young

Home: California, United States

It started as a 1975 Honda 550 supper motorcycle that I took the engine out of, put it on a bench and then built a motorcycle around the engine using only my imagination, no programs, and no fancy machines using assorted handtools , drill press, and a welder, using steel, copper and brass since it is a Honda 550, I have drilled 550 holes through the frame, swing arm, front forks and seven holes right through the gas tank (THE HOLY BIKE) and the bike has no kickstand and it uses Level Ride air suspension so the bike parks right on the ground and from my cell phone using a app it will raise up about 8 inches to ride height, there is no paint on the bike, except for a clearcoat I have also used different metals using their natural colors to enhance the Bikes look
