Arduino-based organ perfusion system.

Laboratory equipment could be expensive and their cost can be unsustainable for scientists with limited financial resources. In order to overcome these limits we build a scalable organ perfusion system for research purposes based on Arduino boards, pressure transducers, peristaltic pumps, a thermostatic unit, and a micro-oxygenator. Our system is designed to measure the mechanical properties of rat liver, however, it can be rearranged to perform other research on subnormothermic or hypothermic ex-vivo perfusion of liver and kidney or to realize peritoneal or isolated limb perfusion models.

Pollen Sprayer

The Pollen Sprayer is a particular electronic tank, equipped with nebulizers, which allows you to carry out the artificial pollination of plants with the aid of a drone. Designed for the pistachio plant, it can be used for any fruit tree in order to improve fruit setting and increase production. What makes the Pollen Sprayer unique is the fact that it can be adapted to any drone. In fact, given the high cost, the purchase of specific agricultural drones is not accessible to everyone.

O projeto consiste numa tabela peródica interativa controlada através de uma aplicação móvel. Os elementos da tabela periódica são representados através de uma fita de leds RGB e são acionados através da aplicação, utilizando um microcontrolador Arduino e um módulo Bluetooth. Através da aplicação móvel é possível identificar individualmente cada elemento químico, atraves do seu número atómico, assim como as respetivas famílias a que pertencem. A aplicação permite também identificar um exemplo de um grupo e de um período, o estado físico a que se encontram numa determinada temperatura e especificar os elementos químicos de acordo com a data da sua descoberta.

Life MUssel Sustainable production (re)cyCLES – Life MUSCLES

The LIFE MUSCLES project aims at reducing the impact linked to the use of Polypropylene (PP) socks for mussel farming, promoting and creating an more sustainable mussel production value chain that minimise the dispersion of PP socks in the marine environment, through: • the transition to a circular economic model within the mussel production sector in the targeted areas through the recovery and recycling of polypropylene (PP) socks used for mussels farming by providing the italian mussel farmers with a mobile Recycling Plant (300 kg/day) able to operate directly at mussel farms facilities; • the increase in sustainability of the mussel farming sector in the targeted areas by promoting both the replacement of PP socks with ones made of biodegradable and compostable biopolymer (BP) and validating the feasibility of mechanical and organic recycling of biopolymeric (BP) socks. • the awareness raising of key different target groups and stakeholders such as farmers, distributors and consumers, on the sustainability of mussel production sector; • Definition and transfer of good practices to reduce the dispersion/abandonment of PP socks at sea.
