The M.G. Locost

Home: California, United States

A built-from-scratch replica of a 1963 Lotus Seven roadster, based on the popular book 'Build Your Own Sports Car' by British engineer Ron Champion. The frame. body, suspension, exhaust, and interior were all made by hand, while the drivetrain and brakes were salvaged from a 1972 MGB convertible. We started the build in August of 2011 and completed it in February of 2014. Since then, the street-legal car has accumulated over 65,000 miles on the road.

What Inspired You to Make This?

Building a car from scratch had long been a dream of mine, and from the first time I saw a Locost, in 2004, I was determined to try to build one. It took a few years after that to get started, and it turned out the project required a lot of new skills I didn't actually have, but we persevered and completed the car three years later. In the end the whole thing was an incredibly rewarding experience.
