LEGO & Makey Makey

Architect’s of Air Luminarium

From the Guggenheim in Spain to the Sydney Opera House in Australia, the monumental and interactive walk-in sculptures of Architects of Air and designed by Alan Parkinson, have astounded audiences across the globe. Architects of Air has toured the luminaria since 1992 and visited 43 countries. The luminarium offers a dazzling maze of winding paths and soaring domes where Islamic architecture, Archimedean solids and Gothic cathedrals meld into an inspiring monument to the beauty of light and colour, and where visitors can happily loose themselves. The installation awakens all the senses, creating a sense of wonder and enchantment for all ages. Visitors are transported and immersed into an amazing world of light and subtle and saturated hues, for a unique sensory experience, and brings visual art in places where you wouldn't expect it. It is a paradox that such a stimulating environment can simultaneously be so calming and comforting. Many people find a luminarium a place for rest or meditation.

Lego Spirograph Machines

Beyond Words

Nonverbal communication, like gestures, shape how we connect with each other. But what if a simple hand movement could tell a story? Could two people feel a sense of connection without speaking at all? This project explores how hand-based, mimetic gestures can create playful spaces for human connection. Beyond Words is an interactive experience where two participants use their hands to form different shapes, guided by prompts. A gesture-detection system translates these movements into animations that weave together into a shared story, where imagination and gestures become the language of understanding.

(Very Small) Robot Choir

Come play with our robot friends as they try to flap and wave and spin around. Maybe they don't always “ work”, but they do always play. This year we will be bringing an armful of our silly guys to flap and wave and spin around, including the (Very Small) Robot Choir. They need your help to rock out though, by coloring in a paper grid you can program and direct your own unique tiny robot performance. Our goal is to show kids that there is more to robotics than battle bots and race cars (as cool as they are), because we think that if more young artists grow up and build goofy robots in sweaters the world will be a better place.
