501 foot long chess crochet scarf

Faire: Bay Area

Maker: Lauren Goodkind

Home: California, United States

I started the scarf on November 19, 2019. On March 16, 2024, I finally finished my approximately 501 foot long chess scarf which broke the initial Guinness Book of World Records for the longest crochet scarf by an individual, 492.16 feet. As a chess teacher, the primary colors of the scarf are black and white to represent the game of chess. In addition, two yarn balls are blue to represent the ocean. I want people to take care of the ocean! The last two yarn ball are green to represent the earth. I want people to take care of the earth. I used about 35 miles of yarn to create the 75 pound scarf. The online local newspaper wrote an article about my scarf: https://inmenlo.com/2024/05/19/chess-master-lauren-goodkind-created-scarf-that-broke-initial-guinness-book-of-records/
