Cartalana, Gioielli che Raccontano

Faire: Rome

Maker: Marcella Stilo

Entirely handmade from recycled and precious paper, Cartalana jewellery is characterised by an essential, geometric design; finished with natural stones and metals. Each gesture leading to the creation of a paper-jewel is both tribute and inspiration to Nature, which never discards anything, but reuses itself to regenerate. These are not mere jewels but little artist's books to wear: each one tells a story inspired by art, myths, legends or the personal and childhood memories of Marcella Stilo, founder and artisan of the brand.

Castle Bravo

Faire: Bay Area

Maker: Hack Club

Home: California, United States

Castle Bravo is a floating bouncy castle! Bouncy castles are incredibly buoyant, so why not put one on the water? It turns out there are lots of problems with doing that, but we solved all of them with engineering. And now we have a floating bouncy castle. It even has a motor so we can drive it around. Originally powered by dinosaurs, Castle Bravo is currently being converted to run on 100% solar power by teenagers at Hack Club, a worldwide network of students who build awesome things with technology. We’ll probably make it remote-controlled too. The castle is the flagship of our nascent armada, which will eventually include hundreds of home-built vessels built by hack clubbers around the globe. Come join us if that sounds like your kind of thing.

Mermaid Glimmer’s Jellyfish Grotto

Faire: Bay Area

Maker: Erin StBlaine

Home: California, United States

50 iridescent jellyfish hang silently over the heads of viewers. During the daytime the sunlight filters through the rainbow jellies, creating a beautiful play of light and shadow on the ground. At night, the jellies are illuminated with animated lights, connected and controlled via a wifi network. The swarm appears to come alive as lights play through the jellyfish with a beautiful array of colors and patterns. The jellies whisper, shout, giggle, and glow through light animations, delighting the viewers who walk underneath. Erin St Blaine is a light artist based in Northern California. She creates sculptures, costumes and artwork with programmable LED lights, often including interactivity and data visualization to bring her creations to life.

Bubo-2T

Faire: Rome

Maker: Kevin McAleer

WHAT IS BUBO-2T Bubo-2T is a robotic owl made in the Steampunk style. INSPIRATION Bubo was the name of the clockwork owl in the 1981 movie Clash of the Titans. It was animated by Ray Harryhousen. I’ve taken inspiration from other movie characters such as the Nautilus from the movie 20,000 Leagues under the Sea. I was also inspired by Tick Tock - the clockwork tin man from the movie Return to Oz. My other inspirations are creators of companion robots, such as Alex Glow and her Archie robot, Jorvon Moss, and also creators of wearable tech, such as Naomi Wu and Sophy Wong. Bubo-2T features advanced AI and machine learning and can detect hand gestures made in front of it. FEATURES 2 large eyes that open and close using 2 servers, one per eye Opening and closing mouth Each eye contains an Neopixel ring that is animated via a Raspberry Pi Pico The Pico is also connected via UART to a Raspberry Pi 4 2Gb One of the eyes also contains a Raspberry Pi Camera 3 Wide module The camera module enables the user to strike a pose, the hand gestures are detected and the camera will take a picture and tweet it to Twitter or Toot it to Mastodon (thats what the 2T or tooty means).
