Light Work

What is life without light?

The Sun brings warmth and the gift of sight, yet also casts our shadows. This is my attempt at changing the way we perceive light. Using a variety of liquids, oils and dyes, I attempt to bend light into different shapes and forms. These images were taken by me in my home in an attempt to preserve a moment. Use this time to appreciate your light and make friends with your shadow.

Kevin Combs

Kevin Combs (Combsy) was born in Berkeley, CA. Raised by his mother along with his two siblings, Combsy was always curious about how things worked. Constantly taking apart and sometimes putting back together his toys. In high school, he was asked for help with the lighting for the annual play. With no past experience, that was his first introduction into light and live performance. The impact this had on his life wouldn't be prevalent until much later. After high school he moved to San Jose to attend school. In need of class credits, he joined KSJS, the campus radio station. This is where he fell in love with music. After two years on the radio, he decided to drop out of school and pursue a career in the arts. He found himself DJing parties, events, and eventually weddings. After DJing an event, he would find himself working on a variety of expressive projects late into the night. His latest work, titled 'Light Work' was sparked by a friend who offered him an old overhead projector for free. This simple device sparked an idea and his curiosity has led him to a variety of experiments with Light and Liquid.
