Curio Kits by Ecco

Maker Faire Bay Area 2025

September 26th-28th

Art & Design

Build it yourself at our booth! Customize your wings. Inspired by nature, driven by you!

Enter a world where play and invention come together. At Curio Kits, we create contraptions that flap... Conflaptions! Our very first is the Flappy-do, a build-it-yourself kinetic sculpture inspired by the fluttering wings of insects. More than just a toy, it's a moving piece of art that comes alive in your hands. At the fair, you'll assemble your own Flappy-do, glue it together, and watch it flap for the first time.

Your visit isn't just for viewing—it's for doing. We've built a hands-on maker station where you can select your colors, personalize your wings, and give your Flappy-do its own character. From fitting the parts to designing your wings with a splash of color, every step sparks creativity and fun. Whether you're 3 or 80, the building process is simple, rewarding, and memorable.

Come flap with us!

Ecco Pierce

Ecco is an artist turned engineer, a kinetic dreamweaver blending mechanics, sculpture, and storytelling into mesmerizing motion. From hand-cranked butterfly wings to art cars, automated terrariums, and rocket parts, her work lives at the intersection of precision and play.

With a background in aerospace prototyping and years spent teaching in makerspaces, Ecco champions hands-on learning through curiosity, beauty, and joy. She's built everything from wearable tech and sculptural jewelry to large-scale kinetic exhibits, puppets, and theatrical costumes—often all in the same week.

As the creator behind Curio Kits, Ecco invites people of all ages to touch, tinker, and take part in the magic of making. Her work celebrates the delicate mechanics of life—whether in a whirring automaton or a self-contained biosphere—and encourages a new generation of creators to build boldly, think weirdly, and never stop wondering.
