Alternative STEAM for Edu
Home: California, United States
AltEdu (Alternative Education) is excited to present three innovative projects at the 2024 Bay Area Maker Faire. From Story to STEAM: Our volunteers, including top professionals from various fields, have crafted original works inspired by beloved stories. These crafts are designed to ignite children's interest in STEAM subjects while enhancing their hand-brain coordination. Interactive Robotics: We’ll showcase interactive robots from championship-winning robotics teams, giving children hands-on experience in operating advanced technology. DIY Math Games and Puzzles: Back by popular demand, our DIY math games and puzzles offer families a fun and engaging way to explore mathematics. These activities demonstrate how math is not only relevant but essential in everyday life.

We are AltEdu (Alternative Education), a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization based in California. Our mission is to explore and implement innovative ideas and approaches that leverage technology and business models to drive and support educational transformation. At the 2023 Bay Area Maker Faire, we presented our "Math Games and Puzzles" project, led by our youth volunteers. We were thrilled by the overwhelming interest from kids, parents, and educators. Many shared that our project exemplified an ideal approach to teaching math to children. Additionally, several schools and educational platforms expressed interest in future collaborations. This year, we're eager to expand our horizons by showcasing more of our ongoing projects: “From Story to STEAM,” “From Game to Math,” and “From Robots to Innovations.” These hands-on projects embody the principle of “learning by doing” and emphasize collaboration. In this era of significant educational transformation, we recognize the critical challenges that education faces. Content is becoming stale and outdated, while traditional educational models remain rigid due to constraints like intellectual property (IP). Our projects aim to address these challenges by integrating well-known IP from entertainment, publishing, and media into educational contexts, making learning more engaging and relevant.
