American Society of Mechanical Engineers at SJSU Projects.

Faire: Bay Area
Maker: American Society of Mechanical Engineers at SJSU
Home: California, United States
Our club does one major year long project developing a hybrid tricycle while also making small mechatronics and design projects using additive manufacturing over the course of the year. As a club we've developed over 25 projects in the past year and won over $2,500 in prizes collectively. We also recently revitalize our team since the pandemic, so as a team of once 10 students we've expanded to over 100! All of our small projects involve utilization of Fusion 360 to model the parts! Our projects range across various fields within the engineering field, such as electric vehicles, aerospace, aerodynamics, combat robotics, mechatronics, mechanical design, and many more!

ProtoStax – Modular, Extensible, Stackable Enclosures

Faire: Bay Area
Maker: Sridhar Rajagopal
Home: California, United States
ProtoStax Enclosures are modular, extensible & stackable plug-and-play enclosures. They help you easily transform your jumble-of-wires-and-boards prototype into an attractive & usable product. They are modular and allow for easy assembly, with unparalleled access for mounting various components. They are extensible – our Extension Kits and Add-Ons allow you to add peripherals like cameras, display panels, fans, switches, etc easily by simply swapping out pieces. They are stackable – create bigger composite enclosures/towers as required. And did we mention they are attractive? Proudly display your creation on a coffee table, share it with friends and family, or even sell to customers! After all, while a prototype that works is great, a prototype that can be used is even better!

Wyldcard

Faire: Bay Area
Maker: Jonah Stiennon
Home: California, United States
E-ink trading cards which can change! Wyldcards are small plastic cards with e-ink screens (like a Kindle). When placed onto a plinth, the image on the card can be changed by a hidden computer. The cards also contain a memory chip, so they can store stats, moves, and keep changes and status effects from one game to the next. Plug your plinth into your friend’s and play against them. I think these cards have the potential to unlock a new paradigm of tabletop gaming. They are rooted in the physical world, but can implement complex game mechanics Based on an idea I had in 2014 and built in my spare time over the past three years, Wyldcard was upvoted to #1 on Hacker News and I'm wrapping up a crowdfunding campaign for a devkit.

Robotic Quadrupeds

Faire: Bay Area
Maker: Laksh & Akshat
Home: California, United States
We plan to present an array of robotic legged animals including quadrupeds in the form of robotic dogs and spiders. These are fully 3D printed, wired, and coded from scratch. These also support remote control over wifi so you can control these with your phone. Previous versions of these robots have even supported on board robot arms capable to pick up small objects.

Ubo Pod

Faire: Bay Area
Maker: Ubo Pod
Home: California, United States
Ubo Pod is an open-source hardware platform made for makers and developers. It adds a layer of UI/UX to Raspberry Pi to let end-users better interact with developer applications. Makers can use it to develop smart home applications or self-host their personal data on their own hardware. The hardware comes with an SDK that can make development much easier particularly when it comes to interfacing with added hardware peripherals or developing a GUI. Pachinko, Clocks and Bots – Art, Electronics and Restoration

Faire: Bay Area
Maker: Yolo Maker Guys
Home: California, United States
We're a couple of people who enjoy building and creating interesting things. We have some original design clocks made from 3d printed parts, LEDs, cool neon and other accents. Also a restored early 1970s Japanese pachinko machine, which has all mechanical ball handling mechanism but has been augmented with an Arduino and programmed LEDs. People can try out pachinko and we can explain the history and popularity in Japan. We have 'Copperbot' which is a remote-controlled kinetic art, a sculpture built on a wheelchair base from soldered copper wire structures, large decorative vacuum tubes, over 200 programmed LEDs, several Arduinos, Raspberry Pi, screen, cameras and flapping wings. A few other sculptures and creations fill out the collection.

PantryChef: AI and Raspberry Pi Recipe Suggestion App

Homebrew Robotics Club

Faire: Bay Area
Maker: Homebrew Robotics Club
Home: California, United States
HBRC is a club of robotics enthusiasts from families with middle school kids to retirees who like to experiment with all different kinds of robots. From small table top based robots to full-size humanoids, from rovers to robotic arms. We have some members who work for robotics companies but we see it as a hobby and a way to learn and educate each other. Some members have fun at competitions like RoboGames or the club also has a couple of exhibition meetings every year, where members can present their robots. HBRC is participating in the BA Maker Faire for many years (and different members in other Maker Faires as well).

Photo Roboto

Faire: Bay Area
Maker: Sam Freeman
Home: California, United States
Photo Roboto is a selfie robot built out of a vintage rangefinder camera, scrap pipe, a thermal printer and a Raspberry Pi. It's an easy build for parties. I'm always nervous when it comes to upcycling antiques, so no permanent changes were made to the camera.

Raspberry Pi

Faire: Bay Area
Maker: Raspberry Pi
Home: Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom
Makers will be able to get hands-on with Raspberry Pi Ltd's newest computer, Raspberry Pi 5. Talk to the Raspberry Pi team and perhaps grab a little piece of Raspberry Pi swag.
