Making a Connection: a Response to the Refugee Crisis

Making a Connection: a Response to the Refugee Crisis

How are makers facilitating a sustainable response to the refugee crisis? As open centers for collaboration, creativity, and innovation, maker spaces are becoming a setting for refugees and displaced persons to improve their living situation and positively connect with their host communities.

What inspired you to begin investigating your topic or inspired you to make your project?:
Communitere had already established three sites globally, in Haiti, the Philippines and in Nepal, to respond to natural disasters. Communitere's model is made to be adaptable to any situation, and with the refugee population in Europe growing and clearly needing access to resources (and clearly being limited in freedom of movement and connectivity), we decided to expand into this type of response as a setting for community engagement to coexist alongside making.
