NOETICA by the Flaming Lotus Girls

NOETICA celebrates the sensuality and interconnections of life. Seemingly solid, the interlocking cubes can be made to dance and move in synchrony. A three-foot prototype will demonstrate the construction of the ultimate 36 cube, 20-foot structure.

What inspired you to make this project?:
no•et•ic: From the Greek noēsis/ noētikos, meaning inner wisdom, and unconscious knowing

There are several ways we “know” the world around us. Science, by observation and experimentation, helps to increase objectivity and reduce inaccuracy.

Another way of knowing is internal. It includes intuition and hunches; the way you know you love your children, or experiences that cannot be explained or proven, but feel real nonetheless. This way of knowing is called “noetic”.

NOETICA demonstrates our unspoken combined consciousness. Each portion of the sculpture is an important individual piece, a unique element of thought or belief. But none stands alone. Movement of one affects all of the others. Connection between the cubes is necessary to maintain the integrity of the whole.
