Maker Faire Coney Island 2025
The RoHawks Robotics Team
Home: New York, United States of America
Our high school robotics team plans on hosting a booth where children and teens can learn more about robotics and the STEM opportunities that FIRST offers for all age levels. We will be running an activity that introduces kids to electrical engineering: guiding them in creating simple circuits using play-dough, light bulbs, and batteries (similar to https://www.ted.com/talks/annmarie_thomas_hands_on_science_with_squishy_circuits?subtitle=en). We will also offer older teens the opportunity to drive our small FIRST Tech Challenge (middle school robotics) team robot. If visitors are interested, we would love to have members present to demonstrate all the features of our robot, explain our building process, and break down the mechanics.

What Inspired You to Make This?
Our team is dedicated to bringing valuable hands-on STEM education to middle and high schoolers beyond the limitations of traditional classroom learning. We host numerous outreach events targeted towards children of all ages to encourage local youth and families to explore local STEM extracurriculars. We believe that this would be a wonderful opportunity to introduce the youth in our community to robotics and the field of engineering as a whole.
