Michael Batie Ph.D.
Michael Batie Ph.D. is an energetic advocate in promoting the pursuit of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) based careers to the Black community. In his capacity as President of the Los Angeles Council of Black Professional Engineers he is focusing the organizations’ efforts toward making all stakeholders aware of the acute need for students of color to be meaningful participants in encouraging STEM courses of study for our youth. In 2008 the STEM education and Research Collaborative LLC was formed to serve as an education, research, and training center to provide a forum for systematic study and joint action to resolve pressing problems related to STEM education and research. Additionally this year Mobile Math and Science Labs, another venture formed under STEMERC served over 2000 students in Los Angeles county providing them with hands-on standards based STEM activities in their classrooms.
