Open-access and low-cost water monitoring system for developing countries

Access to water quality information is a global challenge, especially where real-time data is scarce. We present a low-cost, open-access system with in-situ sensors and wireless data transmission. Independent of commercial brands, it promotes technological sovereignty, involving students from the community. Anyone with internet can explore the data through a web app and join the monitoring effort.

This project strengthens water quality monitoring in Bolívar, Colombia, by providing real-time, reliable, open-access data on rivers, wetlands, and lakes. It unites researchers, institutions, and communities to improve understanding, protection, and decision-making around regional water resources at an affordable cost, being one of the key pillars of this initiative the technological sovereignty.
