Maker Faire Bay Area 2025
National Parks' Ships at Mare Island
Home: California, United States
Historic Ships Make Their First-Ever Visit to Mare Island! While Hyde Street Pier undergoes renovations, the National Park Service is bringing three legendary vessels to Mare Island—an extraordinary opportunity to witness maritime history up close. These ships will serve as the perfect backdrop for Maker Faire Bay Area, where the spirit of old-world craftsmanship meets cutting-edge innovation. Meet the Ships: ⚓ C.A. Thayer (1895) - Built in Humboldt Bay, this rugged West Coast schooner hauled lumber, traded salmon, and fished cod before braving the Pacific. Today, it stands as the last of its kind. ⚓ Eppleton Hall (1914) - A rare English-built steam tugboat with independent grasshopper engines powering its iconic side-wheels—an engineering marvel of its time. ⚓ Balclutha (1886) - A mighty Scottish square-rigger with an iron hull, built to conquer the high seas. It rounded Cape Horn 17 times, blending brute sail power with industrial-age innovation.
